Definition of Phrase
فریزجملہ الفاظ کا ایک گروپ ہے جس کا اپنا فاعل یعنی سبجیکٹ اور پریڈیکیٹ(predicate) نہیں ہے (پیش گوئی ایک مین ورب یا امدادی فعل ہوسکتا ہے)۔ الفاظ کا ایسا گروپ کچھ معنی رکھتا ہے لیکن مکمل معنی نہیں دیتا۔ دراصل، ایک فریزجملے کا ایک حصہ ہے اور مکمل جملے کو مکمل معنی کے ساتھ بنانے میں مدد کرتا ہے۔
A phrase is a group of words that does not have its own subject and predicate (predicate may be a main verb or helping verb). Such a group of words makes some sense but does not give a complete sense. Actually, a phrase is a part of the sentence and helps in making the complete sentence with complete sense. |

There are eight kinds of phrase.
- Adjective Phrase
- Adverb Phrase

1. Adjective Phrase
جب الفاظ کا ایک گروپ بغیر کسی فاعل اور پریڈیکیٹ کے ایک صفت کا کام کرتا ہے، جسے Adjective Phrase کہا جاتا ہے۔ یہ متعدد الفاظ پر مشتمل ہونا چاہیے۔ ہم ایک یا زیادہ الفاظ کا اضافہ کر کے کسی صفت سے ایک صفت والا جملہ بنا سکتے ہیں۔
When a group of words without having subject and predicate does the work of an adjective, called Adjective Phrase. It must consist of multiple words. We can make an adjective phrase from an adjective by adding one or more words. |
Examples
a nobleman, of great nobility, with blue eyes.
مندرجہ بالا مثالوں میں (blue)، (nobility) اور (blue) صفت ہیں اور ہر صفت کے ساتھ الفاظ جوڑنے کے بعد صفت کے جملے بناتے ہیں۔
In the above examples noble, nobility and blue are adjectives and after adding words with each adjective make adjective phrases. |

2. Adverb Phrase
جب الفاظ کا ایک گروپ بغیر اس کےفاعل اور پریڈیکیٹ کے ایک فعل کا کام کرتا ہے، جسے Adver Phrase کہا جاتا ہے۔
When a group of words without having its subject and predicate do the job of an adverb, called adverb phrase. |
(فعل: جب ہم adjective، time، placeاور manner کے آخر میں ly کا اضافہ کرکے صفت میں ترمیم کرتے ہیں تو اسے adverbکہتے ہیں۔)
(Adverb: When we modify adjective by adding ly at the end of the adjective, time, place, and manner then it is called an adverb.)

3.Noun Phrase
ناون فریز الفاظ کا ایک گروپ ہے جو بطور اسم کام کرتا ہے۔ یہ کسی فعل کا فاعل یا مفعول ہو سکتا ہے۔
A noun phrase is a group of words that acts as a noun. It may be a subject or object/complement of a verb. |

4.Prepositional Phrase
prepositional phrase کسی preposition پر مشتمل ہوتا ہے جس کے بعد ایک prepositional complement ہوتا ہے جو خصوصیت کے لحاظ سے ایک اسم جملہ یا WH-Clause یا V-ing Clause ہوتا ہے۔
A prepositional phrase consists of a preposition followed by a prepositional complement which is characteristically a noun phrase or a WH-Clause or V-ing Clause.
