Past Indefinite Tense in Urdu

اردو میں، ماضی کی غیر معینہ مدت کسی ایسے عمل کو بیان کرنے کے لیے استعمال ہوتا ہے جو ماضی میں ہوا اور اب مکمل ہو گیا ہے۔ اسے “سادہ ماضی کا زمانہ” یا “ماضی غیر معینہ مدت” کے نام سے بھی جانا جاتا ہے۔

In Urdu, the past indefinite tense is used to describe an action that occurred in the past and is now completed. It is also known as the “simple past tense” or “past indefinite tense.”

اردو میں ماضی غیر معینہ مدت بنانے کے لیے، آپ عام طور پر فعل کی جڑ کے آخر میں “-ا” (-a) لاحقہ جوڑتے ہیں اگر فعل مذکر ہے، اور “-ی” (-i) اگر فعل مؤنث ہے۔ یہاں چند مثالیں ہیں:

Past Indefinite Tense Rules

فعل ماضی مطلق، جسے سادہ ماضی کے طور پر بھی جانا جاتا ہے، کسی ایسے عمل یا واقعے کو بیان کرنے کے لیے استعمال کیا جاتا ہے جو ماضی میں پیش آیا اور مکمل ہوا۔ ماضی کی غیر معینہ مدت کو استعمال کرنے کے کچھ اصول یہ ہیں:

The past indefinite tense, also known as the simple past tense, is used to describe an action or event that occurred and was completed in the past. Here are some rules for using the past indefinite tense:

Past Indefinite Tense | How to Learn with Formulas Examples

STEP – I

Past = passed/gone گزرہ ہوا

Indefinite = that is for unknown length of time مطلق

Tense = time period/verb زمانہ

Present Indefinite Tense = any action happened for unknown length of time in past times

Present Indefinite Tense = ماضی میں نامعلوم وقت کے لیے کوئی بھی عمل ہوا ہو۔

STEP-II

Definition of Past Indefinite Tense:

In this tense anything is done, happened  or borne in just past times.

اس زمانےمیں کچھ بھی کیا جاتا ہے، ہوا یا برداشت کیا جاتا ہے گزرے ہوئے وقت میں۔

Recognition of Past Indefinite Tense in English:

S + 2nd form of Verb + O

They did their duty.

سب سے پہلے، سبجیکٹ کو جملے کے شروع میں رکھا جاتا ہے پھر فعل کی دوسری فارم اور آخر میں فل اسٹاپ لگایا جاتا ہے۔

First of all, subject is placed at the start of sentence then 2nd form of verb and object at the end with full stop.

Note:In this tense, we will not add “s”  or  “es” at the end of verb.

Remember, the past indefinite tense in Urdu agrees with the gender and number of the subject. The verb endings may change accordingly.

Affirmative Sentences مثبت جملے

The past indefinite tense, also known as the simple past tense, is used to describe an action that took place in the past and is now completed. In Urdu, the structure of the past indefinite tense is as follows:

Affirmative Sentences:

For Masculine Verbs:

Subject + Verb Root + “ا” (-a) + تھا (-tha)

Example: وہ آیا تھا۔ (He came.)

For Feminine Verbs:

Subject + Verb Root + “ی” (-i) + تھی (-thi)

Example: وہ چلی تھی۔ (She went.)

Negative Sentence of Past Indefinite Tense

کسی جملے کو منفی بنانے کے لیے، صرف فاعل کے بعد صرف “did not” شامل کریں۔ آئیے اسے وضع کریں۔

To make a sentence negative, add only “did not“right after subject. Let us formulate it.

For Masculine Verbs:

Subject + Verb Root + “نہیں” (-nahin) + تھا (-tha)

Example: میں نے نہیں کھایا تھا۔ (I didn’t eat.)

For Feminine Verbs:

Subject + Verb Root + “نہیں” (-nahin) + تھی (-thi)

Example: تم نے نہیں پڑھی تھی۔ (You didn’t read.)

یاد رکھیں، ‘did not’ کا اضافہ کرنے کے بعد، فعل 1st فارم کی دوسری شکل کوپہلی میں تبدیل کرنا لازمی ہے۔

For Masculine Verbs:

Verb Root + “ا” (-a) + تھا (-tha) + Subject + ?

Example: کیا تم آئے تھے؟ (Did you come?)

For Feminine Verbs:

Verb Root + “ی” (-i) + تھی (-thi) + Subject + ?

Example: کیا وہ کام کیا تھی؟ (Did she do the work?)

کسی جملے کو سوالیہ بنانے کے لیے، فاعل سے پہلے did” کا اضافہ کریں۔ آئیے اسے وضع کریں۔
